I've been to the shooting range for the second time this spring, and decided that some sort of range box would be nice to keep everything handy and organized. And prevent me from forgeting something (like a bore brush)

Does anyone have any favorites? Should I buy a kit or put mine own together by purchasing everything seperately?

I was thinking of the Tipton box/kit, but would like some input before making the purchase.

Thank you,

Duane

I have been wondering the same thing. The sporting goods store (Turners) has a couple plastic boxes that have a gun holder on top that can be used as a shooting stand.

Not real sure of the quality or what else is out there. I have checked Cabelas, but did not see anything. They must have something. I need one also.

Help!

I use a Craftsman soft tool bag. Holds everything I need. Several boxes of ammo, my eye and ear protection, the staple gun and misc stuff. It has internal slots for small tools I use for scope and gun adjustments ie: allen wrenchs, screwdrivers and sharpies for marking targets. The whole thing is 14" long, 6" wide and 11" deep with a hard bottom. Has a nice handle and heavy duty zipper. Also has a slot that holds a name card. Got it on sale at Sears for $10.00. Bigger and smaller sizes are available. And it looks great.

I also have gone to the soft tool bag. Got mine as a 2 bag set at Home Depot for $12. The smaller one is great for the pistol range or toting ammo on sporting clays. The bigger one has a carry strap and goes with the rifles .It holds spotting scope, cleaning stuff and whatever gear needs to go. WB

Yep, forgot to mention that it also carries extra magazines for my 10/22.

I use a Plano tool box from Home Depot about $10 it has a top tray with lots of storage room under it.

You name it I got it inside, I leave one of my Chrony chronographs in the bottom of it all the time folds up and fits just fine.

Check out the ones for sale at Midway USA. I bought one and was generally satisfied. If only the segmented cleaning rods wouldn't keep unscrewing themselves when I clean a rifle with right hand twist.

The price is reasonable and you get jags, patchs, oil, solvent, and many extras.

I am looking for a hard range box that will hold 4-6 handguns of varying design in a rack. The one I'm looking for has one or both sides opening up with a piano hinge on the top surface - some guys used to mount a spotting scope on the raised lid. The boxes held the guns with barrels angled down, grips facing out. There was usually a drawer or two on the bottom. I have seen them made of either wood or metal, sometimes covered with a leatherette material (wood) or a non-glare textured coating (metal). I'd guess they measured roughly 12"-14" high by 12" wide by 16"-18" inches long

I used to see these cases all over as a kid, but can't remember the last time I saw one. Anybody know the cases I'm talking about and where I could find one?

Thanks,

Scott

Thanks 1Buba,

That looks like it'll work just fine. The ones I remember had the gun grips facing out to the side, but that's the only difference.
