Found this little guy crossing the road next to our cattle guard.

That would be a timber.

Yep, that's a timber rattler. More specifically, it is the canebreak sub-species of the timber rattler, Crotalus horridus atricaudatus. You can tell that by the redish brown dorsal stripe.
