A co-worker told me he read in a magazine that during bow season in Missouri, it is the best time to rattle in the bucks. According to the magazine, when the November firearm season starts, the bucks have already found their does and the rattlin' will cause them too herd off the does and in the bow season they will investigate the sounds. Does this sound logical? Have any of you guys ever had any luck with rattlin' during the firearms session?

Rattled in one and killed it,went to a freinds and rattled for him and he thought i was crazy, but 15 minutes later he had the largest 10pt. 20 ft away from him,but sorry to say he was not paying attention and missed the oppertunity,I thought he was going to cry"really"he dont doubt me no more. That buck was in such a hurry to get there i heard him come off a ridge and cross a creek.
YES it works but most times you will never see them because they want to come in down wind to get a whiff,it is good to rattle in a place where down wind leaves them in the open so they will not go there, also brush in front of you upwind helps so that they cannot tell if there are deer there or not till they get close.
When I rattle this is the time, the does are not in esterus yet but the bucks are moving around looking and running into other bucks that may not be to kind,After the does go into rut,it can still work but probably not,Now is a good time,in fact i came after my rattle horns to go back out and try.
I will rattle Real hard and loud for about 1.5 to 2 min, this is along time, mix in grunts at the same time,Make LOTS of NOISE hit saplings and the ground with the horns,Kick and stomp in the leaves, then get quiet, tap horns lightly once in awhile and grunt also but look and listen for about 45 min. you may do this a couple times then its time to move and try another area.
If 2 bucks are going at it it will be loud,But you can scare smaller bucks away, this is a chance you take.

To put it plain though,if you see bucks in Missouri while rattling once or twice in 20 tries you are doing really good, but the way i figure it is I may never have seen any at all.
