SCI – First For Hunters Extends Contract
RENO, Nev., Feb. 27, 2003 – The Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority (RSCVA) and SCI – First For Hunters today announced that SCI has extended the contract for its annual convention until 2006. The world’s largest hunting show returned to Reno this January for what now will be a four-year run at the newly expanded Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
“The SCI annual hunters’ convention was booked until 2005, but after experiencing the new RSCC facility and the incredible value this destination offers they have extended their contract for another year,” said Bob Brown, RSCVA vice president of sales.
“We just had an absolutely outstanding show,” said Peter J. Dart, SCI Executive Director. “Our exhibitors and members truly appreciate the warm welcomes and open arms they received from the entire Reno-Tahoe community, and the Reno-Sparks Convention Center team went the distance to effectively address the needs of our high-volume and truly international show.”
Dart added, “More than 16,300 hunters from 52 countries, from every state in the United States, from every Canadian province and territory attended the 2003 SCI Hunters’ Convention. The positive feedback we continue to receive from the SCI family, and the willingness of Reno-Tahoe to be a true partner in the success of our record-breaking event were key factors in our decision to stay in Reno through 2006.“
Dart also noted the most successful one-day membership drive in SCI’s history occurred on Feb. 1, 2003, the last day of the SCI 31st Annual Hunters Convention in Reno.
“From hotel staff to taxi drivers to restaurant staff, Reno’s citizens were eager to assist in any way they could,” said Dart. “But seeing 1,400 Nevadans join SCI to protect the freedom to hunt on Saturday really shows how much area sportsmen and women care about SCI and our show. I’m delighted that so many Nevadans took us up on the introductory offer to see the last day of the convention for the price of their $30 SCI Sportsman’s Advocate memberships.”
The SCI 31st Annual Hunters’ Convention represented a $20 million boost to the Reno-Tahoe economy – through room nights, gaming, food, entertainment, transportation and sales tax expenditures. Similar local economic benefits will be realized when the SCI Convention returns Jan. 21 – 24, 2004, Jan. 26 – 29, 2005, and Jan. 18 – 21, 2006.
“RSCVA is thrilled the world’s best guides and outfitters, manufacturers and retailers will return to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center and Reno-Tahoe. We look forward to working with SCI for many years to come,” Brown said.
SCI – First For Hunters is the leader in protecting the freedom to hunt and in promoting wildlife conservation worldwide. It is a tireless advocate for the world’s 45 million sportsmen and sportswomen who annually drive more than $1.7 billion in funding to conserve all wild species.
