Rising Health Costs Cut Into Wages

Recent history has not been kind to working-class Americans, who were down on the economy long before the word recession was uttered.

The main reason: spiraling health-care costs have been whacking away at their wages. Even though workers are producing more, inflation-adjusted median family income has dipped 2.6 percent -- or nearly $1,000 annually since 2000.

Boy am I glad that 30% of every dollar I spend into my healthcare provider goes to profits and administrative fees

Better than one thin dime of my money going toward socialized healthcare.

Son once again we spend the most money per capita on healthcare yet get the least for our money of any indutrialized nation. Sounds like a great deal to me.

I wonder how much of your money is going in to the treatment of illegals either in hospitals or jails?

What basis are you using to get that we get the least and pay in the most? Please dont say a Moore film.

I do know that our R+D is pumping out drugs for just about everything you can imagine. Life expectancy is up.

Are you an eternal pessimist? Will your glass ever be half full?

When you look at industrialized countries that have national healthcare we rank pretty low on a lot of factors. The amount they spend on the healthcare for their citizens is much lower yet they still come out ahead of un in life expectancy, infant mortality, etc.

Since when did profits trump the health of our own citizens? Tricare works pretty well as does medicare.

Since when did health care become a right? If you don't like your health care, get a better plan.

Yet the quality of our healthcare and the level of scientific advancement is better than any in the world. Just ask the Canadians who, even though they have socialized medicine, come to America for treatment. Amazing what capitalism drives people to do, isn't it? You think our scientific medical advancements were made out of the goodness of peoples hearts? One word: Profit. Boo hoo. In case you missed it, HEALTH CARE IS NOT A RIGHT.

So you guys don't care about your fellow citizens enough to make sure that they are taken care of?

A healthy populace leads to a stronger economy. A stronger economy leads to a stronger country.

I have a good spearfishing friend who is a retired marine pilot and he liked tricare and now that he is retired has access to medicare. He likes it and I take his word for it.

I guess you guys "aren't your brothers keeper."

Peoples health in this country has nothing to do with the quality of care, it's the lack of person caring!

People need to learn to take care of themselves. Where does it say I have to take care of and pay for every lazy, takin', using, freeloader out there. Less taxes and government interaction leads to a stronger economy. Subsidies and welfare lead to helpless freeloaders. The main reason healthcare costs so much is freeloaders and litigation. Forget about your stupid govt. healthcare and get rid of those two things and you we will be better off. SocialismSUCKS!

Well said Sodhunter.

The fellow citizens should care enough to get off their arse and get a job and pay for their healthcare< if they do not care enough to do that then why should I.

A healthy populace with free health care leads to more lazy arses and higher taxes.

Just because someone likes something does not mean it's good for everone. I like my steak rare, so should everyone eat theirs that way?

My brothers need to learn to keep themselves and quit looking for a handout.

I love how you always try to invoke scripture, that verse has nothing to do with providing everything a person needs to live.

I can't speak for medicare, but Tricare can be a real nightmare. They can approve and deny health care for my family just like any other HMO.

Do any of you know how to catch wild pigs? You put feed out and let them come and go and eat awhile. Then you build a fence along one side and leave the feed. They'll come back and get used to the fence. Then you build one of the sides and continue to feed. Once you get all four sides done, you leave the gate open and put the feed out. The pigs will come in, like they have every day, fat dumb and happy to get the free food they don't have to work for. You simply close the gate behind them and pick which one you'd like to eat.

I've always hated fences and handouts. I wish more people did.

Just like the high cost of many social programs and auto insurance, we are all supporting those who can't or won't help themselves. Take that out of the equation first, then lets see how much it really costs...

I care enough about my fellow citizens to let them take care of themselves. I am not here to make sure they are "taken care of". And you are free to personally take care of whomever you wish on your own. I am my own families' keeper, not the entire populace.
