Flint Hills are an ideal habitat for butterflies

The rich grasslands of the Flint Hills have been the site of plenty of roundups. Rather than chasing hulking cattle, 14 people gathered Thursday through Saturday to round up some of nature's most delicate creatures: butterflies.

They included a research scientist, a rancher and others just wanting to enjoy some interaction with nature.

They couldn't have found much better grounds for butterflies.

"The potential for really healthy butterfly habitat is certainly great here in the Flint Hills," said Ray Moranz, an Oklahoma State University graduate student and prairie ecologist studying butterflies in four states.
