am planning to sell my remington 522 speedmaster .22 auto and get a ruger 10/22 so i can use the new .17m2 when it comes out - am curious what are the current going prices for 10/22 - - also are the older versions better? - saw a used one for $175 - new ones up here go for $199 is this typical? - -- was told the older ones were made better - not simple thrown together - any credence to this? - steve

Steve: You'd better read the posts below this one before you slap a price tag on the Speedmaster. Hornady has released a press statement saying that the M2 is not suitable for the 10/22 Ruger. Tests have shown that it cracks the recievers. Green Mountain has dropped it's plans to manufacture a 10/22 barrel in M2 and Jarvis Barrel has recalled the barrels it has sold already. FYI. ~AMMOe

well so much for that idea! :( - does anybody know a place that makes speedmaster barrels? Or rather is there anyway to tell which rimfire auto has a heavy enough bold/receiver to handle the pressure and recoil - so its functions as it should? - Or it it really beyond all hope at this point?
