I know this has probably been asked only about a million times, but what is a good, rugged, as waterproff as possible w/o a surrounding case, digital camera for outdoor pics. Want to use it while hunting so it should be as compact and versitile, meaning telephoto capacity, as possible. Oh, and for under $100. Just kidding. I don't mind paying for something good.

Probably the hardest aspect of those requirements is the waterproofness. Do you mean rain, humidity, spray (like from boat, waves)? or full blown submersion?

If you are willing to crack a $1000, a DSLR will give you the absolute best image quality, camera performace, and overall satisfaction that will last a long time without having to compromise on satisfaction or purchase something else in a long time. I think most DSLR cameras have rubber seals around the housing, buttons, and controls which helps when outside in the elements. Not sure if the Rebel does (maybe Zach can give an update)

If you are wanting to stay around $500, I kind of like the panasonic cameras, they sport a nice image stabilized Leica zoom. I have never shot one, but based on the vitals, and image samples, I like the panasonics (FZ20, FZ5, and a few others). I have also seen good results from the Canon IS too.
