I'm sure most of you are aware that sac wildlife refuge is open to pig hunting now (only until March 15). I
Im headed there tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or advice? If not ill post an update on how the hunt went

I hope you know that the pig hunting is allowed in the Sacramento RIVER refuge. Not the Sacto Complex ..

Fill us in on the hunt. I'm a hop and a jump from there and may look to that area, even if I have to take a shotgun.

So, it was super cold and windy this morning so we didn't stay long... excuses I know. We went to the Sul Norte unit. It was really nice and clean. I was quite shocked.. we did see one nice big pig track, but we were unable to locate any areas of obvious rooting, bedding, or travel (other than the track). I would recommend going if you have time. The pigs are obviously there.

I guess it could be a deer who's toes got spread apart in the mud, but the dew claws are really far behind the toe.. I would think a deer with dew claw prints would be close to the toe?

Agreed. Deer track. Did some more research and it definitely looks like a deer that was either running or just sank in the mud.

* edit trip update: along with not seeing any sign of rooting we did not see any tracks either. :smiley_doh:

Drove across the Butte City bridge over the Sac and gads of deer between the rows of brush.
Unfortunately only jRs can hunt that particular hunt I believe.

That's a running deer track and the other ones around are walking deer tracks... Don't hang up your boots yet... Keep on it... Good luck

That's definitely a deer track... The pigs are around - you just have to pick the right spot at the right time... They are usually buried in the brush...

Thanks everyone.

We will continue the search. I'm actually eating a wild boar burger right now... I'm just getting tired of paying $8.99 a pound for it at Sprouts!!

Sure, if you are tired of paying $8.99 you will pay much much more.
When you get your pig, if you calculate all the expenses like empty trips, gas, ammo, guns, cloths, boots, optic, trips to sight in your gun, tags, licensees etc, each pound is like $100-300.
Hunting is not to make the meat cheaper
