My brother recently moved to Oregon and is a new hunter. He has invited me to hunt with him in November Saddle Mt. Unit 2 hunt. He has no hunting experience and I am unfamiliar with the area. Looking for anything that will get us off on the right foot. Thanks.......

Saddle Mountain Unit

There are elk all over the unit but there are good numbers of people chasing them too. It's mostly private timberland but most is open to the public. Roads all over the place. Just dive in and go for it. You'll want to get out of the truck and into the big dark timber, the farther off the roads the better. That's where the elk will go with the pressure.

Like HuntHard00 says, elk are everywhere and so are the weekend warriors. But if you can get yourself into a nice little drainage and let everyone else road hunt around you, you will pretty much see something. I don't rifle hunt but the areas around North Fork Wolf Creek, Music Rd, McGregor Rd, Humbug, Camp 18 usually shows animals around bow season. Unless you're willing to drive out to 101 and hunt along the coast line. Right around Twin Peaks and the areas surrounding the Saddle Mt. State Park have lots of animals, but it's a matter of 45 degree angle hikes.

find the escape routes the elk use to move back in farther from the roads and get there early and you will catch them moving thru.
