Sage grouse causes plane damage
Associated Press
JACKSON - The pilot of a Continental Airlines jetliner aborted takeoff after a sage grouse was sucked into an engine.
The 737 was speeding for takeoff at Jackson Hole Airport the morning of Sept. 6 when it struck the bird, causing damage to the right engine. The jet stopped safely about 2,500 feet from the end of the runway, according to an incident report.
The plane taxied back to the gate and passengers were rerouted onto other airlines, Continental spokeswoman Julie King said.
Mechanics flew in from Houston, Texas, to repair the engine so the plane could be flown back to Houston for further repairs. Damage was estimated at $200,000 to $250,000.
