In May I won a Pig hunt at a sporting clay shot at 5 dogs range for the fallen firefighter foundation. The hunt was offered by two of kern county fire dept firefighters on one of there ranch in San benito county. So finally I had some time to go up there the hunt was for 2 guys 2 pigs and two days. We got up to the ranch late friday evening and we had dinner and drinks and met everyone there. We stayed up and told stories for a while then all went to bed we got up at five to a great breakfest and headed up the hill (7000 ac.) we go out for about 7 hours and end up seeing 3 very large hogs but at over 800 yards away it was a no play since the weather had came in 5 hours earlier and due to the mud and clay it was very slow goings.
We went back to the ranch house had a bite and warmed up for a few hours. We head out in the evening along the river and we spot about 40 hogs in a field. there is about 15 min of legal shooting light left, its raining, cold and windy the hogs dont even know we are there at 60 yards on a rise off the road. my buddy who never had got a pig takes the first shot, and didnt wait for the count of 3 to both fire, so he drops a sow in her tracks and I fire as they start to move some but not scared I pick up the lead hog and fire he is hit and maybe goes 20 yards and piles up. the rest all hi tail it up the hill.

12 hours in the field, rain, even some snow on the high side of the ranch and crazy winds. two hogs down to end the day, back to the barn to gut and skin. the colorado koolaid went down nice last night. IMG_2696.JPG IMG_2698.JPG IMG_2705.JPG
