Tejon Ranch is on the a Grapevine, but it is a pay to play place. I imagine that if you got on public lands bordering Tejon Ranch, you would get a pig or two.

bhackney,
There is more than one place very close to SB to hunt hogs. Some you need written permission, which you can get, and others you don't. I found them by doing a little thinking and a whole lot of driving. Look for tracks. Good Luck. I hope you understand why I will not divulge my spots, they were way to hard to find, however; keep the faith, they are out there.

I understand I can't say I blame you for holding out. I have read about a couple places in Banning/Beaumont area and I will check that out this week. I have also called DFG and left a message with the Biologist and I hope to hear back? However should you want to give up a General direction feel free to send it my way

Thanks

Bhackney,

I cant help ya out with the finding hogs in SB county. I have a few spots up north, but as hawghunter mentioned it took work to find these spots and cant divulge. My best advice to you is. Take a few days off of work, gas up the truck and head up north around paso robles/lockwood/king city area. Most of the area up there is privite, but there is some BLM land up there that backs up to priviate land and has pretty good hunting. Talk to people, dont be afraid to ask around. Theres landowners up there that will let you hunt there land, there just hard to find, but there out there. Ask for permission, offer some cash or offer to do manuel labor around there land in exchange for hunting rights, the worst they can tell you is "NO"...Its worth the time and effort, especially if you find someone who says "yes" and now you have a "Honeyhole"

I thought that I had heard of some pigs around Silverwood lake. That is in the west end of SB you might check with the forest people around the lake. On second thought they will probably tell you there is no legal hunting in the forest. Search this pig forum under san bernadino for the last year and see if there is any posts. The seach button at the top right corner of this page.
Good luck

bhackney,

Go here: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/hunting/index.html and download the guide to hunting wild pig in California. It has examples of tracks and sign.

BTW, if you do eventually find something near SB, please share!

My prediction though - after you've spent many many weekends and hiked 100 miles and finally find them, you'll not want to give up your sweet spot so easily.

My one and only pig was taken near San Timoteo Canyon a few years ago. I've been back out there since, but have been unable to locate anymore sign in huntable areas. Last year I was kicked out by a Ranger, so that's probably the area that they're hiding. I know of another place (Silverwood is warm), but they keep moving into unaccessible land. Then there is the Santa Ana River wash in Riverside (nearby). There are supposed to be BUNCHES in there, but no way have I found to get in there legally. If you can talk Riverside Co. into opening that up, I'll trade you everything else I know...and buy you a cold one!

That area around Paradise Rd. has plenty of pigs, but most of where I know they're at is private property. There's also some guiding service going on in some of those ranches, used to be anyway don't know if they still do. Quite a few of the ranches off the 154 on the Figueroa Mts. side have pigs coming onto their property, mostly flatter areas. It would be nice if those ranchers would give permission though. I've seen a couple fat pigs on some of those ranches. No public land adjacent to wait for them to come out though. Come September when A zone opens, you'll see alot of the smart, nice looking bucks making those ranches their home. That was the case for me anyway. Don't know a whole lot about Paradise rd. other than going through there a few times to see what it's like around there. Any info you'd like to share Shot? You getting access to some of the private property out that road?

bhackney - let me know what you find on that $350 hunt. It may be the same ranch I've seen pigs on. Is he charging you only if you take a pig? Guided or non-guided? I go up that area alot so it may be worth checking out.

Yes it's a flat fee and it is Guided hunt for any pig under 250 lbs. He sounds like a good guy I talked with him for some time. He has a ranch and I think he has one Guid that he let use his ranch. I'm just having a hard time paying for guided hunts I know I will pay more on my own in time and money however it the process that I enjoy and cutting it short by paying is hard for me. I'm trying to avoid this but I may have to get a pig

Paradise Rd has many private ranches around it, and yes there are some pigs on them. However, they are connected to national forest, which is huntable. I seen a lot of trails from ranches to the the nf. From Paradise rd, towards the end there are routs that lead to the nf, but only by foot, and its not a easy hike. Two years ago me and my dad spoted a boar about 800 yards away, by the time we got close enough to shot it had already gone in think brush.

Also there are turkeys and a lot of deer. But during A zone season it gets packed.

Yes you're right it does get packed during A zone. I got a couple rough terrains that I had all to myself that were pretty successful until the pressure also caused the more experienced hunters of that area to go up further as well.

You know Shot, that's not a bad price for a guided pig hunt. Most under $400 are not guided, but unguided can be a blast I'm sure. Can you give some info on this ranch? Shoot me a pm if you'd like.

Yotegetter I talked to the Owner of the ranch and he sounds ok. He only has one Guide and after talking with him it sounds like a good deal. Maybe if we all go at the same time we can get a better price? I have three guys that I hunt with and all our solid. Let me know if you are interested. The ranch info is

Stag Peak Hunts and the Ranch that he uses is called Rancho San Fernando it's right off Pardise Rd at 166 pardise rd Santa Barbara Ca. 805-967-5372 and the price is $350 for anything under 250 lbs.

let me know what you think?
