Read about the same thing in Jim Matthews' Hog Hunter magazine.  Something like three are known to have been harvested.  He guessed that they migrated up from the Mojave River drainage.

I saw a pic of the first two hogs stuck by bow near Lake Silverwood at the Archer's Haven bow shop in Monrovia. The guy who stuck the 2 hogs was Mark Dwyer. 2 more hogs have been taken by rifle the past 2 weeks. If they get a couple litters out it could be a good local hog hunt.

These are not the feral pigs that wonder up from the dam/spillway area of Hesperia these are long haired russian boar looking hogs. Warden Dick Phillips has seen the hogs and he also says they are definitely wild boars and not ferals or crosses. I talked with Jim Matthews right after Mark shot these hogs and the word is someone let them loose to get a population going locally.

The SBNF people are having a cow because they know how much a mess the hogs can make. Sightings have the hogs at the east end of the Lake Silverwood State Park all the way over to the west end of the park all on the south side of the state park boundary

Check soutth of Highway 138 as it passes by Lake Silverwood and along the oaks as the highway rises up to Crestline. There are a few forestry roads you can run but it will be snowed in pretty good for awhile on the north side of the ridge. Turkeys in there too. There is no hunting inside the Lake Silverwood State Park so make sure you know where you're at. The forestry service stations have NF maps to show the boundaries or any REI or backpack shop.

Spectr17, thanks for the information. It would be nice if they take hold. Save us folk from having to drive 200 miles to hunt hog.. We can only hope..

I might be out of line here, but...If everyone (hunters)want these pigs to get established, why be so free with the info and in a rush to go out and kill them.....hronk

there is a reason there are few pigs on public land and it will most definetly apply down in so cal where the population is dense..  if it ever gets easy the wrong element comes out and thats when bad things happen and hunters get a bad name... sorry for being a cynic

All I'm saying is, if you want them to get established, you need to give them a chance.  It's nothing to do with hard or easy.....hronk

What we want and what the Forest Service want are not always the same.  Take for instance the policy on target shooting in the NF.  Next thing we know, the FS will hire out a depredation 'expert' to remove all of the hogs.

I wish the pigs in San Timeteo Canyon would migrate to the SB National Forest.

Gordon - Buddy, your going to have to drive further than a couple hundred miles to hunt hogs in the SBNF if'n your from Louisana. LOL.

Hronk nailed it. I know hogs mulitply quickly but the best thing right now would be to not kill the hogs there, at least for the time being. A couple of years ago a guy stuck a couple of hogs in the same area. I would hunt that area all the time if'n there was a good population, I wouldn't care how hard the huntin is. But there is no way I am going to hunt that area right now. I will sit and wait and see if they can really take hold up there. They sure have been try'in for the last few years.
