Hello,
My name is Seth. I recently got into hunting after a five year service in the Navy. I am interested in finding hunting buddies in and around San Diego County and am willing to travel a little for hunting trips. I am also planning on going to the Salton Sea on January 9th and 10th to hunt duck and Geese if anyone is interested.
I am not a very experienced hunter, but I understand gun safety and practice it religiously. Even though I am not very experienced, I have managed to call in one Coyote using a Primos Lil-Dog call and I harvested him at 40 yards using my 12 Ga. Remington 870 Express Super-Mag loaded with 3" Dead Coyote T-shot. It was a perfect clean kill with one pellet behind the left shoulder and the other hitting the middle joint of the front left leg. As far as I could tell no other pellets hit and it dropped him in his tracks.
I do consider myself a "self taught hunter", however I am always looking for advice, tips, tricks, etc. and am open to anyone willing to teach me what they know.
I also got an A-22 deer tag this year, but was unsuccessful at filling it and plan to try again next year. The closes I got was 50 yards from a doe, but at the time I wasn't comfortable shooting over 40 yards and I let her go, instead of risking only injuring her. I do consider myself an ethical hunter and will not take a shot unless I know there is a good chance of a clean kill and am always prepared to take a follow up shot if need be. I also believe that "one should eat what one kills." So as far the coyote I am unsure if I will continue to hunt them, I am going to cook a little of the meat in my slow cooker tonight and see how it tastes. If I like it then I'll continue to hunt them, If I don't I probably won't hunt another one.
