My daughter and I were lucky and recieved the one day hunt on the San Luis reservoir wildlife area for a deer and pig hunt for each of us. I have never been in this area before and was wondering if any of you guys have had this opportunity before and could possibly give us some pointers or what we could expect. From what i understand it is 900 acres that is fenced in and that there is only 8 hunters on saturday and 8 hunters on sunday. We drew the sunday hunt. Any response would be much appreciated

Plan on packing, and bring lots of water, it's steep and lots of hills,
If you park along the road near the concrete drainage almost to the top, it's a better walk, you can go and scout it before would be good, it's should be open for archery now

I have hiked my boots off at San Luis without much luck. Get as far away from the road as possible

Thank you guys! It is one day on sunday, august 15th. Its opening weekend for gun season and is limited to 8 hunters on saturday and 8 hunters on sunday, allowed to take one buck and one pig per hunter if you have an A zone tag.

I hope you get to see the elk that live there, but if they see you, that's about thirty pairs of eyes that let the deer and pigs know where you are.

I know that they do the drawing for Upper Cottonwood for opening day A-zone rifle season, but since when did they start the San Luis Reservoir Wildlife Area draw? The San Luis Wildlife Area have always been open to hunting year round for anything in season. And it's a shotgun and archery only area.

It is open for year round hunting except for the opening weekend of deer season and the special elk draw hunt.
