hello all

while coaching today I heard one of the parents talking abouth hunting pigs in the santa ana river bed here near Norco. I remember about ten yrs ago a few kids in high school talking about this but never paid much attention. I know that permission is available and hunting is allowed, but where and how do I get permission. is it only during some special hunt or what?
If anyone knows how or has hunted or has heard of it please let me know.
Then again it could just be a bunch of drunk good ol boys heading down at night with a flashlight and a 9mm.
chime in and let me know.

If they're hunting the pigs around the river, they either have permission from dairy farmers along the river, or their doing it illegally. All the public land along the river in that area is parkland. Over the years there have been attempts to get special hunts going, but the DFG and Riverside County have never been able to agree on terms. Last I heard there were about 600 pigs in that section of the river.

Only one guy gets to shoot pigs down there, and he works for the City of Riverside. He is allowed to because the pigs are tearing up the denitrification ponds.

Nobody else is allowed to shoot.

The hunts were reduced to absurdity before they were (mercifully) cancelled ten years ago.
