Since I was not one of the lucky few to be drawn for the Santa Cruz Island pig hunts, I am hoping to live vicariously through those of you who were drawn.  I know that at least one JHPer was on the March 25-27 hunt.  Please start detailing your hunts below, and post lots of pictures.

I'll see you there Monday morning. Went to the shooting range this morning to get dialed in. Can't wait!!! Hope there are still some pigs left for us to shoot.
And thanks SDHUNTER for all your posts; you've answered a lot of questions for us.

We'll be in a lt. brown Windstar.
I'm having a tough time keeping the gear under 50lbs.  I have a good insulated ice chest and it weighs 10lbs by itself!  Good thing we don't have to bring water.

Hoghunter,
We were in area #6.  It was a good area and very isolated.  It was one main valley with a creek in it.  My only complaint was that is was so steep that it was hard to get out of the valley to try to hunt some fresh areas.  Don't take my word for it, I only got to see areas 5 and 6, but 5 looked like a great area.  Its a huge gentle valley with lots of huntable area.  You guys have the advantage of starting your hunt on a Monday so hopefully the hogs will have settled down a bit from all the other hunters.  As for the weight limit.  Take all you can on your person.  Wear all the clothes you plan to take.  You can always take your jacket off and tie it around your waist.  Thats what I did.  Then I stuffed the cargo pockets of my camos full a gear.  I even wore my binoculars around my neck on the plane ride over to save weight.  I'm sure I had 10lbs on my person.  Everyone else did this too and the airline staff didn't seem to mind.  Just be sure to add the extra weight when you sign in and report your weight on the plane's manifest.  Good luck and give us the full report when you return.

Hoghunter,

Just got back on Wednesday from Santa Cruz Island.  Hunted area 4 (farthest west tip of the island) and saw lots of pigs.  The hunting pressure has moved the pigs away from the area camp sites at least a mile.  The smart ones are left and sitting tight under the bushes and feeding at night.  Areas 4, 5, and 6 are rougher country and for those ready for tough hiking.  Our DFG team asked for volunteers for these sections.  It sounded like we saw the most pigs in section 4 (~15), but that is because we walked our tails off.  Areas 1 and 2 sounded like they had fewer pigs in the area.

Cougar;
Congratulations on your hunt. How many did you get? Any pictures? Like the previous post for SDHUNTER, what would you do different or bring with you? I'm going on the 4/15-17 hunt and can't wait to get there. How many were taken by all 12 hunters?

ice chest & rifle or bow ? I'am I don't even have a change of clothes in yet.

Yeah, I keep coming in at 65lbs. Im just going to have to try and carry as much as I can in my jacket and pants pockets. I'm used to car camping and taking a lot of "just in case" stuff. This is a challenge! It's too bad they make you include the ice chest and gun in the weight limit.

Salty/Hoghunter,

Sorry I missed you before you left.  Hope you had a great time!

By the way, my hunting partner and I each got one boar.  What a blast! I'm hooked.
