Do any of you have or know info about satelite phones. I loose service every time I hit the hunting grounds and always thought a satelite phone would be the answer. I saw one listed for 2 thousand bucks way too much for me. Once you buy one is there a phone company to deal with or monthly service charges.
Thanks

Check with PCI Race Radios in Signal Hill (562) 427-8177. Sat phones are used by offroad racers down in Baja and Rally racers for Paris to Dakar and such. Oh yeah they run about $500-$600 to buy a phone.

Last I heard, the service ran over $5/minute.  Don't know what subscriber charges would run.
Sat phones are also popular with ocean-going vessels.

The phone you are talking about is good for an Army Ranger calling in air strikes but not very practical for consumer use.  A GOOD vhf/uhf 5 watt radio would allow you communicate from anywhere via repeaters on mountain tops.  For less than 1/2 the cost of a used phone you could get a top of the line model, check it out.
