Well, bow season so far has left me wanting. I passed on a decent 8pt at 9yds earlier in the year, I wanted to let him grow. Have seen him 3 times since, never close enough for a bow shot. We did discover a monster 10 on the property, I have not seen him yet. The does have all but dissappeared. The beans from last year are now milo, and that doesn't seem to draw the deer in like last year. Perhaps next year will be corn.
So I have high hopes of getting a deer on Saturday, as I have seen a few, but no shot opportunities. I would be real happy with a doe, meat in the freezer. I still think I am gonna let Pete (the 8pt, I name the bucks that I see, so we know what bucks we are talking about), but I am gonna let Pete walk still. I know 3 people that said they would shoot him, and he isn't the most sneaky of bucks, so I think he will be gone this year. I think he is a fork we let walk last year, he wasn't real bright then either. Would love to see him next year, he would be a REAL nice buck (his spread is about 1" short of the ends of his ears right now, next year he could be out past his ears with good mass and some longer tines).
But anyway, I don't know how well I am gonna make it thru tomorrow, just waiting for Saturday morning to come around. Hunted less this year than last due to work, just every weekend both days so far. My hunting buddy has to go out of town for training, so it will just be me for opening weekend. Kind of a bummer.
The gun is sighted in, the bags are packed, the truck is gassed.
Be careful, hope to hear no one in MO got shot this year!
