(look under centerfire, weather warrior, model #116fss long action)
look these over they can normally be purchased reasonably and with just a little tuneing are EXTREMELY ACURATE with the correct ammo, as some of you may know finding a good deal on a stainless synthetic 338win or 375 H&H can normally be quite expensive, these rifles make excellent elk hunting rifles if you can handle the recoil or if you handload and can match the load to the application. The only problem is that if you take the time to bed the action and work up handloads they are so damn accurate that someone is always trying to buy them from you, Ive owned 3 of the 338s and everytime I finnish getting them just right someone sees how well they shoot and swaps me for quite a bit more that I paid for the savage in other guns or guns and money!
two guys I know hunt ELK exclusively with them even though they own much more expensive rifles because as they say, why hunt with a less accurate rifle or one that will show the wear and tear on the stock if you happen to drop it durring the hunt just because you payed more for it, this is my hunting rifle the other ones more for looks! I own several SAKO,s and WEATHERBYS that cost more and shoot just as well after tweaking but if your on a tight budget these rifles are hard to beat in value , the 300mag, 338win and 375H&H make
EXCELLENT ELK hunting rifles, but I think youll find the over 30 caliber rifles do the best job if you can handle the recoil (ADDING A MUZZLE BRAKE AND A GOOD RECOIL PAD AND USEING A SLING WITH CORRECT SHOOTING FORM HELPS A GREAT DEAL)
now please don,t get the IDEA that you think Im saying you need a 338 win to kill elk, anyone thats hunted elk for a while will tell you that a 270win, 308 win or 30-06 will kill elk with a single shot if its precisely placed in the heart lung area, what I am saying is that a first shot precisely placed on a slowly walking elk is a totally differant deal than trying to drop a scared or wounded elk set on putting 3 ridge lines between him and you AFTER that first shot, if you failed to make that shot perfect, and that the penetration and damage done to the elks heart and lung area or the ability to break large bones or shoot through more musle and paunch to reach those vital areas can be accomplished from worse angles, from greater distances and under worse conditions useing the heavier calibers PROVIDED YOU CAN SHOOT THEM WELL! and that since you can,t control everything that happens durring a hunt haveing a little extra punch available in your elk rifle is a big plus ,PROVIDED YOU CAN SHOOT THE LARGER GUN WELL. your much better off with a 30-06 you can shoot well than a 338win or 375H&H your afraid of, but the 338win or 375H&H or simular crtridges will do the job better and faster under almost every condition IF YOU CAN SHOOT THEM WELL
