The Savannah River Site hunts for 2002 will be:

October 23, 26 & 30;
November 2, 6, 9, 13, 16, 20, 23, 27 & 30;
December 4, 7, 11 & 14;

The phone numbers are:
803-725-1219 or 803-725-3170

The address is:

Westinghouse Savannah River Company
Deer Control Activity
Building 713-4A
Aiken, SC 29808

Due to 09-11-01, they only had limited hunts last fall. Some of the people that were drawn for last year will have preference this year if they did not get a refund for their hunt fee from last year. Now they require a background check through the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC). You need to call & see how many spots will be vacant for this years hunts. I am sure that some people got refunds last year & also, some people will not pass the background checks this year. I am not sure if they will be sending out new applications for this years hunts or not. In the past, the applications go out the first week of June and must be returned by the end of June.

Just give them a call & get on the mailing list for the application. Due to the lack of hunts last year, there should be some BIG'UN's this year. Hope ya'll can go. It is an awesome experience.

Good Luck to Everyone that gets to go this year. Hopefully, we'll get some nice ones this year.

Here's a photo of my 2000 buck:

Thanks Jesse.  We we drawn to hunt last year, but the hunts were cancelled after 09/11.  We just let them keep our hunt fee & we were given first choice of the hunts this year.  I just wanted to pass on the application information.  I was not sure how many people knew about it.  For $70 a hunt, you can't beat the opporunity to get a wall-hanger.  Hopefully, all five of us will get shots at deer & or hogs this year.  In the past, the hunts have been awesome.  If you are lucky enough to be in an area where someone has some really good dogs, it is worth it just to hear them runnin' through the pines on the heals of Mr. Whitetail.  I can't wait.  :7-bouncin:  :7-bouncin:  :7-bouncin:  :7-bouncin:

Lankyman knows where all of the big ones hang out. He only lets the rest of us shoot the little ones.

Gobblestopper,
Do you know graduate James Phillips from Citadel? His class was the last one to graduate before the entrance of women.

Bull Moose >> do you mean app's for the Citadel? Not sure. For the Savannah River site, I don't think so. I think you have to call them and have an app sent to you. 803-725-1219 or 803-725-3170

But you better hustle, I think they have to be postmarked by 6/30/02.

Are The Savannah River Site hunts available for non-residents?

Qbn >> Yes they are. I believe all the application says that if drawn they require you to obtain a valid hunting license. Which would be a non-residence tag for you, and me too.

Jerry,

For the 2001 SRS hunt drawing, the successful applicant notices were post marked from SRS on July 30, 2001.  They had to be returned to SRS with a check by August 13, 2001.

If this year is like past years, they should be mailed the last week of July or the first week of August.

We'll let you know when we hear anything.

Good Luck & I hope ya'll get drawn.  :biggergrin:  :bounce-aqua:  :biggergrin:
