We opened our Christmas presents on Christmas Eve. We headed down to FHL on Christmas Day for a day hunt. When we got to the registration window, nobody was there. It was closed. I kicked myself in the head for not knowing that. So we decided WTH, let's head over to one of the old public land honey hole and try our luck. An hour and a half of driving later we arrived at the parking lot. Got our gear and backpack for the uphill hike to where I have had success in the past. On the hike in, we had pig tracks crossing the trail back and forth that was made after the recent rain. In the past I knew just where the pigs would be hiding when they make tracks like that. I headed over a few finger ridges to the spot and I started seeing fresh scats and the ground littered with pig tracks going in all directions. I slowly went down a trail up to a small knoll and suddenly on the backside under an oak tree I spotted a pig rooting around. I sneak down to within 60 yards and all of sudden the bushes below me erupted with pigs. They all ran up to an open and stopped knowing that something was not right. It was already too late, my crossed-hair was already on one of the two biggest one. My crossed hair was looking down at the back of the pig and the other biggest one was slightly blocked by a small brush. I waited until the one in my crossed hair turned broadside and BANG! it ran uphill. The rest of them all ran downhill into the thick stuff. I tracked him for almost 100 yards before noticing bloods on the trail. I crested the top of the hill and there he laid motionless. Dad and mini-me heard the shot and they were already calling me on the radio. Now the bad news is we were 2.5 miles from the truck. I shot it at 10:30am and by the time we got everything back to the truck it was 3:30pm. The blisters on my heel from last Saturday got bigger and worse. The black and blue toe-nails now have no contact with the flesh on my toes. I'm going to be in pain for a while.

Haha.....Did the two pigs really look similar? Or was the end of your DISCLAIMER line really mean something?

First one is black, not as buff on the shoulder, and longer snout and longer body. No bullet exit hole. Recovered bullet inside right shoulder.

Second one is more brown, little more buff around the shoulder, and shorter snout and shorter body. See entrance bullet hole on first pic and exit hole on second pic.

That was said out of pure envy my friend! The fact that your scoring pigs on public DIY trips says alot, congrats and I am glad you share the story.
