The alarm went off at 3am Friday morning. Pulled into the parking lot at 4:23am and was supposed to meet a buddy there. Found buddy's truck but no buddy. He must have hiked up ahead. Got all my gear packed and hiked to my favorite glassing ridge just ontime as dawn cracked over the horizon. As soon as there was enough light to see, threw up the bino and start doing the usual glassing out black objects like rocks, tree stumps, and bushes on the grassing open hillside. Found all the usual black objects in their same usual spots until a black spot next to an oak tree doesn't look like a usual black objects I always see on that hill. The shape of the object does look familiar. I concentrate the bino on it for a few seconds and it MOVED! The stalk was on. The plan was to drop down to the bottom of the canyon and up the otherside to a big tree which will give about a 100 yard shot uphill. At the creek bottom, found everywhere freshly rooted up. Still concentrating on stalking the pig up the otherside. Took two step around a big rock and the corner of my eyes caught a black object standing less than 10 yards away. A red object move swiftly past the black object. I then realized PIGS! Swung the rifle at the standing black pig and BOOM! it dropped like a ton of bricks. All hell broke loose with pigs scattering up the hill heading towards the boar where I originally planned the stalk on. I looked at the dead pig and said to myself, how am I going to pack this sucker out? Luckily buddy heard my shot and he called on the radio. Gave him my position and he made it down to my location an hour later. We skinned and butchered the pig into our backpacks and were on our way to the truck. My pack was about 100 lbs. easy as my buddy was only able to help carry a ham and a shoulder. everything else except the hide and gutts were stuffed in my pack and the pig was pusing about 200.
