SCOPE Seeking Volunteers to Assist In 3rd Annual Wheelchair Hunt

10/18/07

My name is Mark Peterson and I have been a SCOPE Member for several years. I create and maintain hunting related websites for several African professional hunters and our South Carolina SCI Chapter.

On behalf of the Low Country Chapter, I would like to extend an invitation to you to attend our 3rd Annual Wheelchair Hunt.

The event gets bigger and better each year as our volunteers and participating landowners tell their friends and fellow landowners what a heart-warming experience it is to help a disabled hunter enjoy the outdoors once again.

This year's event is a little different than our previous two. We expect 25 - 30 hunters, around 20 of them will be wounded veterans. We waived the criteria of "permanent confinement to a wheelchair" this year so that we could include the wounded servicemen. The majority of them were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we will have a few that are long-term residents of a VA Hospital in Columbia who were wounded in Vietnam. Here are some links to our Chapter website about this year's event and past year's events:

We need volunteers to assist our hunters in the field. If you wish, you will have the opportunity to share a ground blind with one of our hunters and share this memorable outdoor experience. I'm sure that you would come away from the event with everything required to write a great outdoor-related, human interest story.

We welcome the participation of all SCOPE Members and any other responsible journalists who may wish to cover the event. Journalists with anti-gun, anti-hunting or anti-war sentiments are encouraged to cover another story.

As an added attraction, this year we will have a Berretta, USA exhibition shooter attending the event. Tim Bradley http://www.benelliusa.com/shooters/timBradley.tpl>http://www.benelliusa.com/shooters/timBradley.tpl will thrill us with his remarkable shotgun shooting feats on both Thursday and Friday at 1pm.

Go to http://www.benelliusa.com and view the "Simply Perfect" video for a sample of Tim's exhibition shooting.

The Low Country Chapter is currently the only Safari Club International Chapter in the state of South Carolina. At one time there were two more Chapters, one in Columbia and another in the Greenwood area, but they are no longer in existence. We would like to extend an invitation to all of the Members of SCOPE to join the Low Country Chapter and help us fight for wildlife conservation and our "Freedom to Hunt" in South Carolina, across the USA and around the world.

Memberships for SCI International and the Low Country Chapter are available at www.scifirstforhunters.com and on our website at http://www.scilowcountry.org/join_sci.htm .

I hope that we will see you at the event. You could attend and participate on both days or just 1 day. Motel rooms are available nearby in Walterboro, Point South and Beaufort. It you plan to attend, please email me at scilowcountry@yahoo.com to advise which days you will attend and whether or not you would like to volunteer to assist a hunter in the field. We will be making the hunter-volunteer-landowner pairings prior to the event.
