Me and the wife was up at the property yesterday afternoon working on the place (me working, wife on porch reading).........we get done, load up and start to head home when:
me: "Holy cow!!!!!!!!look at the size of that hog!!!!"
wife: "thats a rock"
me:"thats no rock....THAT'S A HOG!!!!!"
wife: "wow......that things big......I wouldn't even have noticed it......it looks like a rock"
by now I'm totally excited...........and beleive me I could care less about shooting hogs any more........but this thing was huge!!!
The ride home:
me:" I'm getting my bow and comming back"
wife:" you going to shoot it?"
me:" heck yeah, my first hog with a bow and it won't fit in the truck"
wife" why do you have to shoot it? it's not hurting anything........"
me:"but....."
wife:"it's just down there rooting up the creek.........."
me:"but........."
wife:"you always have to kill everything?"
me:"but........."
wife:" why don't you just leave the poor thing alone.....it isn't doing anything.........and maybe it's a girl......it won't be able to have any more babies next year if you kill it........BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!BLAH!........"
by now my ears are ringing..........needless to say I get home.....grab my camera (heaven knows I wouldn't want to shoot that poor creature)........and head back up.......short end of a long story is that hog must have winded me as it went into the brush....I'm less than 30 yards away and sit there listening to it grunting in the brush until dark....couldn't even get s picture......for some reason these hogs don't run anymore......they just brush up and you can spend hours trying to get them out.......you walk in and they circle around you close enough you can smell their breath but not get a shot due to the thick brush.....I did this with a buddy a month ago.he sat on the bank of the creek while I worked the tules.....me and the hogs are 40 yards from him........playing ring around the rosy......finally we gave up..........the good news is I found a stretch of fence down before my cattle got out........right there where that hog was!?!?!.......LOL........coincidence? (I'm pretty sure it's where a car went through........I'll find out this afternoon when I repair it)
