I heard rumors lately that the sequoia has a good number of hogs in it and I was wondering if anyone has every seen any pigs or sign up there. The area I was told was around lake isabella. This person also told me that there was plenty of Public land up in that area to hunt. Any help would be appreciated.

It's hella dry and hot up there most of the year.
It's dry and cold the rest of the time...

My Sis and BIL live up there, and every time I go up to visit, I figure it's the last place in the world a pig would be..But I guess I could be wrong.

The deer and 'yotes sure love it, the place is over run...
Big fat Quail and Chukkars too, they look like bowling balls with legs..
<

Wish I could be more help...

I've been hangin' around the Lake Isabella area (between Kernville and Johnsondale) for over 20 years and never heard of pigs in the area. None of the locals have ever said anything about 'em.

I've kayaked the Kern from the Golden Trout wilderness down to the Johnsondale bridge, and have done exstensive hiking especially around Durrwood Creek area. I've also boated from the Limestone area down to Kernville and have not viewed any pigs over the years especially in the hot summer. I have sneaked up on them to just a few feet on other Ca. foothill rivers in my river kayak. I could have easily taken them with a .357 mag. They didn't even know I was there.

Just today I was speaking to a person that was telling me about pig hunting up above Kernville somewhere. He didn't say where, but he said that while turkey hunting a ranger told him where some hogs had been tearing up a spring. So apparently there are some up there somewhere in the S.F.

I've hunted and seen hogs north east of Fresno. I think it was buy Pine Flat Res. on private land. Also of hwy 160 I think.Theres a ranch called Whites Deer Ranch that had some hogs on it . It borders the NF.

There are some up on rancheria up around the lookout tower, but most of that area is private. You need to get a REALLY GOOD map that shows where the private land is, those ranchers don't like people on their property.

6:00am Friday morning, July 4th, I'll be having breakfast in Cheryl's Diner in Kernville, and spending the next 4 days near the Johnsondale Bridge over the Kern River.

I'll ask the locals if they've been hearing any pig reports and report next week.

Cheers,

Carl

I know there are pigs hunts offered on a "hunting club" above Oak Flat Lookout off of Rancheria Rd. I have heard of one pig killed by a guy up there on public landing, probably an escapee from the "club." My family has had land up there since 1944...never seen a pig. They use to run range hogs on properties up Rancheria Rd. before cattle became big. You can still see the hog wire fencing along Rancheria below Davis Campground. As far as pigs go...never seen them.

I'm back from the Kern River area near Johnsondale.

No pigs to report, none of the locals I spoke with are aware of any pig hunting in the area.
