I asked this question before in a different section and got no response.
Does the air travel industry have any problems with hunters traveling together and sharing a gun case.
We'll be doing a DIY hunt overseas and would like to consolidate the number of luggage pieces.

I have never heard of any problems but I think a lot of people do what we do. Put all the guns/paperwork under one person’s name. My brother just picked up my gun and took it to customs for our S Africa trip. They're all in one case and one form. It’s a lot easier and faster than dividing it up.

Be on the safe side and call the US Customs Dept at the airport you'll be using.

Glasseye,
This could be a tricky one,I too would call the customs agency at the airport you will be departing from and also the airline too.I have some buddies that go to Africa and they take one of those hard cases for golf clubs and put their guns in that along with some clothes and have not had a problem. But I have also heard that each person is supposed to have their own firearms in their own possesion with their own paperwork. Also, some airlines will only let you bring two guns per ticket holder and like South Africa won't let you bringin more than one gun of that caliber per person. So, you can't bring in two 30-06 for yourself,so be carefull about putting them all under one persons name.Do some home work and write down the persons first and last name you talk to at the airline and customs.......Good luck......Ron...
P.S. When I was in South Africa two guys in front of me at the police station(that were on my flight)did not have their US customs certificate and the SA officer told them unless they had proof of ownership of the fire arms(sales receipt)the guns could not enter the country. The guys said,Now What? and the police officer said fly back to Atlanta. The guys were from Kentucky and had booked a hunt through a broker and didn't have their paperwork write.Don't know what ever happened.....

Just got back from South Africa. I went with a friend and we put his 300 mag in the same case with my 300 mag and had no problems. He had his paper work and I had mine, SAP had no problems nor did US Customs

Yes and no - if under one name, you cannot have two rifles of the same chambering. My buddies put both guns under one name and on one customs form, and same for the South African Police (SAP) form. They took a .35 Whelen and a .338-06. No problems.
