My friend (who I learned to hog hunt with) came out this week from Colorado with one of his troops to hunt hogs and take back meat. He went on terminal leave last Friday and this was a free week before he starts work for FEMA. The guy that came with him had never killed an animal and we wanted to try to get him on one. The weather was iffy (to say the least) so we took advantage of the opportunity and got a key to Sudden and went down there. We saw exactly one hog; a nice boar with great cutters and the littlest stumpy legs on him. We put Chuck on him with his .340 Weatherby at 185 yards and he shot right under it. Chris took one shot running and missed behind, then put the next one right in his running gear at 300 running, offhand, with a .257 Weatherby Mag and 100 gr. TTSX's. He gutted out at 128 lbs. and cleaned up nicely. He was an older hog and even his upper leg bones were short. Weird hog.
We saw a number of hogs in other areas but just could not seal the deal. They had a great time, and took back a bunch of meat, fish, oak, and 845 lbs. of range lead we melted over a couple of days.
Pictures attached.
