Me and a bunch of guys are heading to Ft. Collins/Gould, CO. area for an elk hunt. This will be my first ever elk hunt and I am, needless to say, very excited. When I say "a bunch of guys", I am not kidding. There will be about 30 total; all traditional archers. A few of the guys are returning from Iraq and Afganistan, one of them is an ex-Green Beret, the other is currently Marine Force Recon (yes, both definate bad asses). The hunters are from all over the United States, one guy is even flying in from Scottland.
I am about 90% all packed up, just knowing I will probably forget something....always do. We will be staying in cabins and yurts all spread out within the CO State Forest, bordering up to the Rawah Wilderness. My yurt as at about 9600' elevation...dang that is high. My valley lungs may get pooped out just walking out the front door ...can you say, "porch hunting"? My plan is to hunt and get acclimated to the elevation, and try to bivy out for a few days if I do not see much around my general yurt area.
Anyway, wish me luck. I will take plenty of photos and report back when I get back.
