Congrats! Thanks for sharing. With your writing I felt like I was there with ya. I used the 7mm 168gr Bergers on my Oryx. Similar experience, two shots at 80 yards to put him down, no blood on the ground.

Hey rvrrat - what do you think of the Berger's? Are you going to keep hunting with them? Did your oryx go far? I just don't know if I can form an opinion quite yet...

I feel the same as you about the them, too early to tell. I had been glassing on a ridge in the morning and on the way back to the truck, I stumbled into him while he was bedded down. Startled the hell out of me as he launched out of his bed at about 50 yards and started to run up the ridge. Luckily he turned broadside before the top of the ridge. In my best attempt of an off hand shot I hit him high in front of the shoulder in the neck, probably near the spine. He dropped immediately, but then tried to stand and the second shot was better placed to finish him. I'll be out in NM unit 16A to give it a try with a bull elk tag next month using the same loads so we'll see.
