you can use a regular smooth barrel but the rifling helps. You can try getting rifled slugs if you have a smooth bore

a cyclind or improved cylinder will work but they do sell rifled chokes specifically for sabots

I recommend the Mossberg slug barrel/scope combo. You can order them from Walmart for like 185 or so. I have been using this setup on my 870 for the past two years.

There are almost NO options for non-toxic slugs. The ones I've heard about behave terribly. LtDann went through this during deer season and you should read his posts (I think under the shotgun thread). The best option is to use a rifled barrel and copper sabots but these will NOT shoot in a smoothbore. I repeat: do NOT use lead rifled slugs at FHL, it will get you cited.

??? I'm more confused now than when I came in.

We'll see when I click the button in a sec, but this might be my first post here lol.

Saw this thread and it happens my buddy and I were discussing getting slugs for FHL.

On edit - found it. Seems to me that's like chevy making parts for a ford. Who knew??

I found this thread to be helpful:

Get a rifled barrel if your shotgun allows it. If not get a dedicated slug gun. You can shoot the copper sabot slugs out of your smooth bore but accuracy is limited. And if you're planning on hunting FHL make sure its non lead slugs.

I have a dedicated 870 express slug gun, rifled barrel with Leupold scope. Shooting copper out of a smooth bore is like shooting a mortar horizonatally.
