I'm hearing this rumor again and it's supposed to be escaped pigs from the farmers below that have gone feral. Right outside of Crestline, north side, down 138 where the grassy benches are. Same place a few years back there were hogs taken there. About mid slope above Lake Silverwood. San Bernardino NF. Be careful you don't go too low as that is Lake Silverwood State Park property and they DO patrol and cite.

I got 2 reports of hogs being seen there in the morning consistently. Dude swore on a stack of bibles 4 feet high.

Anyone?

That puts swine about 30 miles as the crow flies from my casa.

Let me know if you'd like to do a little scouting with a sticks and strings - I still have an unused tag from two FHL trips. Don't know if you remember, but I'm in Riverside.

How about a medium?

Wow, thats encouraging news and its about the same distance from my place too!

I'm heading that way in the morning to fish and search for those invisible turkeys I'll bring my binos & spotting scope and let you know if I see anything.

IMHO, if this is true, they could grow in numbers and become a huntable population... They have one of the fastest reproduction rates of all game animals.

Still alitlle discouraged from the crowds yesterday so I slept in and didn't bother going out.
Even fishing wasn't appealing with the thought of weekend boat and jet ski traffic.
The good News is that I did get a reply to my PLAN B from Deedy for a Pig/Turkey combo for $650.00 2 days semi guided with lodging included.
Its a 3 hunter minimum?
Guess I'm going to finally pay to play. It's all about the quality.

I hope she can find 2 more people to make it 3.
I also hope that you are right but, I doubt they last 2 to 3 months.

I heard that they were inter-breeding with the mythical SBNF turkeys and had developed into some sort of flying pigs.

I guess I'm still skeptical.

Yea, thats mine. I was a hot stick on that stop.
We stopped at alijos rocks on the Q-105 and only caught 7 out of the whole group of 20 fisherman. I had three triplets almost all identical in size out of the 7. After that we went offshore and hit on a school of average 30#-32# albacore and had to pull away after 3 non stop hours.
we caught a wahoo too (in June), a couple of 50lb yellowtail and bunch of dorado, bass, you name it, nothing huge, but that was one trip for the books. (At least mine anyway).
Can't go long range anymore because I can't get the time off.
I'm really excited about this hunting trip at Bryson.
This will be my first booked hunt anywhere.
I already know this is the start of something good.
I will let you all know in a blow by blow post of the action.

There ws a population of feral pigs in the Santa Ana River drainage a few years back. The ecologists determined that they were destroying too much of the native vegetation and had to be removed. Instead of opening this area to a special hunt, they used taxpayer money to hire exterminators to go in and kill them. A member of my local NWTF chapter worked for an outfit that was contracted to kill these pigs and he took several himself. Let's hope that they don't declare this Cresline population a nusance and do something similar.

Jesse,

This is the general area where I've seen pig's scat while deer hunting a couple of years ago. I tried to confirm their presence with a wallow but the rivers are all gravel and stones.

Good to see you post again. We were wondering how you've been and what you've been chasing lately. God Bless.

I was in the area of the eagle refuge, saw pit and burnt canyons on opening day of mystery turkey season. The rangers had just opened the gate. We covered a lot of the area and saw no signs of pigs but did see deer, bear and misc predator tracks. I have also heard of the possibility of hogs in the area but more toward deep creek basin just above the ranches. I am on the other side on the mountains, 30 minutes away or so by Cal State. I go there frequently on scouting trips so will keep everybody up to date if I spot any pigs or sign there of. I sure hope its true. Would account for the increase in predators in the area..
