Has anyone actually shot a hog on public land in southern cal?  I hear lots of stories, but never seen on public land.  I have seen some beasts on private land but never public.

I've shot one on public land but it was tough.  Up in the Lagun Mtn area near King City.

I think that if you can find a reputable guide/ranch for a reasonable price it's worth it.  There's something pretty gratifying about a public land pig but if you consider the cost of taking off work, time, driving, scounting, etc.... It can actually cost you less to go pay $300-400 on a ranch where you'll see 50-100 pigs in a day vs. one pig every four outings on private land.

Just my $0.02...

There's a pic of two of the hogs from Lake Silverwood this spring taken by a bow at the Archer's Haven in Monrovia. Tim was the guy's first name.

We useed to whack a few hogs in the Santa Ana River drainage near Corona with bows but the DFG and farmers have put the kibosh on any access in there anymore. Don't even try, they watch Hidden Valley and the golf course REAL good.

Thanks for the tip.   I think I am with songdog.  Seems like it is better to pay to play, rather than waste a bunch of time and never see a hog.  Like I said, I always hear about someone who knew someone who saw pigs in a weird area.  But when I go and scout, I never even see a turd.  Looks like I am off for one of the Pig-O-Ramas.
