Some More Hawg Sheds

Here's some pictures of some sheds that my buddy and I have picked up recently.
This first shed scores 103 6/8 inches. My buddy found it while we were hunting last fall. If the other side is similiar this buck should gross over 230.

The second shed is from a buck I missed last fall. This shed was found last fall and scores 89 2/8 inches and should gross very close to 200. The one droptine was completely chewed off. In 2000 this buck had a droptine that was about 12 inches long. In 2002 it was about 6 inches long. He had same 190 mainframe last year as well.

The third set I found last fall as well. I just finished restoring them and mounted them on a skullplate. This buck grosses 210.

Those sheds are huge! One question though, why are they so dark?

I going tomorrow, hopefully I can find something!

They are dark because I've stained them. The first shed was completely green in colour when it was found. I tried sanding the green out but the green went way too deep. So I had to stain it to cover up the green. The second shed was heavily chewed, lots of gnaw marks on the back of it. I used plastic wood filler to fill in the gnaw marks and then stained it to give it a better look. The last set were both chewed and green. I also had to do some tine repair on the one G2. I again used plastic wood and stain on them as well. All the antlers look way better now than they did before.

BCBOY-you guys should be banned from looking for sheds.

My best sheds look like spikes next to yours!! Post some pics of the little ones that you go to the trouble of bending over to pick up.

Here's one I picked up last week. I was choked that it was already badly chewed. It scores 83 4/8 inches. It is really bladey on the mainbeam, the pictures don't really do it justice. He's caried the bladeyness for the last three years and he's put on a lot of growth. In 2000-2001 my buddy found his matched set and he was a 150 class buck. In 2001-2002 we got one side and he is a low180 class buck. And now 2002-2003 he's a 190 class buck. Hopefully when the snow melts a bit more I'll be able to find his match.

I do pick up smaller sheds as well. Here's a little nontypical I picked up yesterday. He's a four point with eyeguard, a cheater and a dropper. This would be this bucks first year for antler growth. I can't wait to find him over the next few years and watch him grow up.

He's a wierd matched set I picked up this fall. It is a 15X9. It has tons of points over an inch around it's bases. It's chewed pretty heavy so it is hard to score. Even though it only has a low 170 mainframe it still should gross over 200 inches.

Dang BC,

You need to be careful walking around in the woods with racks like that laying around! A man could break a leg on one!

Yawn. Gosh, and I get all excited when I walk out of the woods with a couple medium whitetail racks. Really nice stuff you got up there but that's Canada for you. It's gotta be pretty neat living in an area where that kind of stuff can be found.

It's too bad I didn't take pictures of sheds years ago. I used to live in an area that had a lot of whitetails. I used to find big sheds right on my parents 12 acre property. I had found a monster 6 point one day only 10 feet from our shop when I was clearing brush. Not many whitetail where I live now. But I still have a couple of decent whitetail sheds that I use as my rattling antlers.
I'd have to say that this year is going to be a tough shed season. We didn't get much snow and the deer are really scattered. They weren't forced into their usual areas. I've got the whole month of April off though, so hopefully I'll be able to post more big shed pictures from this year's collection.
