This was my first time shooting flowers. What do you think? And if you have some helpful pointers, what should I do different? Thanks

Thanks IKE.

I went down to the local lake to find something to photograph. Ducks are long gone, birds werer litttle and fast. And the squirrels wouldn't stick around lond enough. Found a few flowers and thought I would give them a shot. And took a picture of a guy in a float tube that had just caught a 5 pounder. Should have been fishin instead.

Nice looking flowers you got there. Isn't it funny, guys who hunt out taking pictures of flowers.

I myself will be out in Anza Borrego Desert this weekend putting my new macro lens to the test.
What type of camera are you shooting with? Most of the P&S have a flower mode/macro mode. If you really want to shoot macros, a tripod is a must. The least might be a monopod.

I am shooting a canon rebel. I have the lens that the camera comes with and a 200mm that I use on most my wildlife shots. Looking to get a 300-400mm lens in the next couple of months.

Cool Deal. Nice to see another DRebel'r out there. I don't know how much you want to spend on the next lens, but the 100-400L is a mighty sweet lens! I am very happy with my purchase. I have also read good things about the Bigma(50-500).

BDB, cool pics. My wife has been wanting to go out and see the flowers, so I'm glad to hear the bloom is good. Where did you see the Bighorn at? I guess I'll take the long lens too!

When you are coming in highway 78 and heading towards Borrego springs, there is a campground there called Tamarisk Grove. It is one of the two main camp grounds. When you are pulling out of the campground like you had spent the night you will T into a main road. Directly in front of you is a ridge line. Apparently this is the area the ews come in the spring to have their babys. They should be having them right about now according to the local rangers (who for the most part were useless if you ask me). My advice is head south in the park, I liked it much better, less people and nice flowers. We took S1 south all the way to the bottom of the park and camped off one of the side dirt roads that went up into a canyon. There is a killer palm oasis about a 1/2 mile walk from Bow Willow campground down S1 in the south end. Here it is from a distance

Here is a map to the park.

BDB, thanks for the tip. I don't know how far off the road I'm going to get off the road with a 2 year old tagging along, but we'll see. Maybe I can talk the 9 year old into a hike or two.

I was there with a rotten beast (dog) that was not allowed off trail at all. The off trail camping we did was awesome. We just followed some dirt roads and set up camp. No rouging it really as you can tell from the dog on the mini-van seat !!! Seriously though, we covered most of the park, call me if you want to know anything. E-mail me and I'll give my #.
