Was just a small boar, hit it high in the spine and had to cut it's throat with a knife. The arrow did get the top of the pigs lung. So it would have died but I ended its suffering.

My old dog, she was like 14 years old and had the worse case of arthritus ever found them the day before but couldn't get over the woodpile seperating the wooded area from my yard. I took my friend Nic there the next day just to show him all the sign. we have 3 acres of forrested pasture land with a river running through it and plenty fruit trees, the front 4 acres are mowed grass with a house and a fruit and citrus orchard. All the food a pig could want in our yard, bananas, mangoes, palm nuts, a vegetable garden, chestnuts, figs, papayas, and the citrus orchard. So we would get pigs up in the yard during the night. Until we got my new Ridgeback and she would keep them away at night.

So I was showing Nic around and we came out of the jungle into the pasture and they were just standing there with the horses. It was about a 30 yard downhill shot from the left side of the bushes where I am picture stalking the hog. Aimed too high because I didn't compensate for the angle.

Great story! What island?

The first small hog I shot with my bow looked like a perfect hit (chime bone) he ran like crazy and I had to take a 2nd shot.

Thats why I like a low quartering away shot .

Here's a goat I shot...The whole story is on the sheep/goat board. I figure more people'll see it here. I was actually on an overnighter pig bowhunt. But someone ran dogs through the valley the day I hiked in. So the hogs were all lying low. The goats were still around high on the ridges however, and I ended up finding on right before I had to start hiking out on the 4th of July. Small little nanny, made some great jerky however.

Another good one this summer. Caught up Hanalei Valley, the dog you see in the foreground is mostly bull terrier/bluetick/pit/brittany spaniel I'm not sure what else is bred into her line. The brown dog on the left is an airedale and the one in the back is Ray Newton's Pit Bull line. All grab dogs, only knife. We had probably another 10 dogs with us that day. Two trucks full.

This is the tree I hung my goat from and butchered it.

Awwwww, hunting in Hawaii is rough...

Looks like a hunters paradise. It doesn't get any better than that.
Hopefully one of these day I will make it out there to hunt.

Cheers.

Hawaii seems like a great place to hunt. I am going to be there for a week over Thanksgiving, do you know of any areas and/or guides on Oahu? I would to sneak in a hunt one of those days during that week. Also do they have a tags/seasons for hogs there or do you just need an out of state license? Any info would be great.

I'm not really sure how the hunting goes on Oahu.

But all you'll need is an out of state hunting license for pigs. I think the limit in most areas is 2 per day per hunter. Bring your bow and hunt the Pali area. I'll try to find some links right now for you. People seem to have good luck hunting this area. Steep area, hard to hunt and thick and there's goats up high so if the pigs are stubborn hike straight up to find the goats.

You'll have your best luck hunting units F and G because there's no dogs allowed. Rifle season is over the end of this month. Unit F is year round every day archery only.

Those are some great looking pics! I've hunted on Oahu a few times with family and it's always been a blast. I may hit the big island, oahu and Kauai this winter to see some family, looks like my bow will be tagging along to. Thanks for the pics!!!

Thanks the info and link. Looks like I will be limited to B, C and D since I have yet to take up bow hunting - hunting pigs in CA public land is tough enough for now!
<
And area B is the only one during the week. Anybody know of any info in there areas and what the terrain is like?

Also, anybody know of any private areas that would allow access for a fee or guides?
