Heres a nice fat sow Nic shot about a month ago on a trail clearing mission. Hit her right behind the ear and dropped her in her tracks through some real real thick bush, actually kinda open compared to most places here. Pretty awesome shot .
And heres a small eater I shot blocking trail by my house. My friends dogs were about 2 minutes behind it. Those little pigs can really book it. It ran up a fern ridge I was standing on and I couldn't see it until it was about 5 yards away. I could just hear it panting like a dog and running through the shoulder high ferns. I was praying it wasn't a huge boar and starting running to the end of this little straight away to give myself more room. It popped out about 5 yards away and took a bullet through the neck. The first dog was there like 2 minutes after.
I really enjoy reading posts. You and Nic are so lucky to be able to fish/hunt all the time in Kaua’i. I can’t wait to take a vacation and get back there to do some hunting/fishing myself (I live in Los Angeles).
My Father was born/raised in Kaua’i and almost all my ohana on his side stay there, the Westside.
We're hunters AND conservationists...pigs are a nuisance here...
MatRat: When you come over here, let me or Nic know and we'll take you for a hunt, Nic has an extra 12ga and I'm sure your relatives have a few if they live in Waimea. Some of the best hunting on the island is right up the hill from there. We'll take you to some of our secret spots, or we'll go explore Koke'e.
Thanks EvBouret, I will take you up on that offer next time I am there.
Most of the ohana stay in Kaumakani, with some in Eleele, Hanapepe, and Kekaha.
