Injured my back, so was pretty much disabled as a hunter.
Since i was useless all hunting partners forgot about me faster than one can say "jack".
The duck season ended, and i was not able to do any walk longer than 100 yards. was waiting to recover, went to doctors where i learned that a surgery was needed.
OK, how long will it take to recover? I need to get some pigs before they butcher me, think I. But the FHL currently is almost never opened and if it is, the available areas are steep terrain and i would not be able to hunt there without a partner, let alone if i kill something.

than i remembered a public land i used to hunt many years ago which was good for me, than i forgot about it, than last year i got a couple of pigs from it, and than due to the drought it died again.

So, somewhere at the beginning of May i took my dog and my wife for a hike.
Not more than 20 min of my limping a saw this, sorry for the bad sell phone pictures.

Needless to say that the next day after doing all my appointments i drove all the way there to put my cameras.
Found my lovely spot alongside of well used trail, but due to all the rains, there became a little, very nice pong. The banks looked like some excavation site with fresh daily rooting and wallows.

Here are some results from a week of camera work

Nice job. That looks like enough meat to last a while. Be safe out there and good luck to you. Almost bbq time.

Looks like a fine area there Justguy, (depending where) If you come up needing a partner drop me a PM. I am sure we could hook up and make some pigs squeal.

I wish you success brother. I know how much joy it would bring you right now, especially with that surgery scenario looming over your thoughts at the moment.

Looks like its a location you'll be able to visit a number of times... what with all those pigs there!

Hehe... maybe we should hit up that spot together!

That'd make an interesting team.

You with your back/leg issue, me with my arm/wrist issue. Together we're like...what... maybe 1.5 hunters?

Over 2 weeks 5 of them were relocated to my freezer. The rest... Gd knows, they stopped appearing again like it happened many times already, public land, you know. Yesterday in 14 ours hunt only one showed up to look for her 4 brothers, so i had to pack her along to visit them. No other ones and nothing on the cameras ( i had 8 in the area).

LOL, correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems to me that the last season you were already invited to hunt deer on my private property. You did not use this invitation, (another JHO member used it successfully, got his first buck), so i decided i'm not worthy HaHaHa

It's not a question of not worthy JustGuy. It's more a question of cost (and cost does NOT only mean money) analysis.

Since I had found two promising spots not as far away, I felt I needed to concentrate on them. That's all. Thankfully, one of them paid off, Yay!

LPNF... well... I know for me to drive out to Gorman (Hungry Valley OffRoad area) it's at least 1.75 hrs even if I drive my usual berserko fast pace at butt-thirty in the morning. But... the drive back home can be nightmarishly long since its all 405 Fwy and going thru WestLA and SouthBay curve just crawls sometimes.

Realistically... probably the only way we could meetup for an early-morning hunt would require an over-night stay for me and we meet in the morning.

Multi-nighters get increasingly difficult for me to do what with wanting to do things with my young boy on one of the weekend days, and then also social events per da wifeys calendar.

I forgot how you can just keep buying pig tags. 5 in the freezer? That's freaking awesome!

Who was the other JHO member that got his first buck? That's awesome you doing that!

Yep, it is what i told you than. It is a bit of hard logistic for this. But it is even less worthy for pigs.
As for tags.
for the first day i had 1 tag and therefore could sooot only one, but as i saw i might be getting more, for the next hunt i bought 2 tags and got 2 piglets. Than i bought two more tags but got one pig. last week before the last hunt i bought another tag, but got only one little piglet. Now i'm stuck with one tag which i doubt i'll be able to use, They do not show since than and it might take some time for them to return

Wow. Way to get it done buddy. That's some cool stuff right there. I'm sorry to read of the hard times or tuff things. Looks like in the end you will get it done with or with the out others. It's real nice of you to help a new guy out. I have been learning a lot from guys around here and hope this will be my year for my first pig, deer and maybe bear if I can eat it. I have put in lots of hard work in to location and hope it all pays off this year. Even with out kills I will be out in the woods for some good times.
Keep up the good work. Hope you heal up well. I'm sure sum of the members will help if you need anything while down.
Take care.

Some public land pig porn (new pictures added)

OK, found some time between my work and all doc' appointments, MRI CT and all other "pleasant" routine. Now i can upload some pictures of the "trophies' i collected over lats 3 weeks.
Sorry for the bad quality. 1st, they are cell phone pictures. 2nd, after the shoot i was waiting till the end of the shooting time, maybe more would come, then went back to bring game cart.
By the time i remembered to take a picture it was dark already.
Please remember, due to the health issues i was carefully choosing the smallest individual available, but again, they are also better eaters.

The first day i want to the area but unlike my usual habit of slowly walking, scouting, now i chose to sit close to the pond in hope they would come.
Around 7PM i heard movement in the bush and 2 saws, one mid-size boar and 6 piglets came to the pond.

I chose the smallest one and put a bullet between her eyes. It dropped and the rest of the pigs were a little alert but in 5 seconds started doing whatever they did before.
It continued till after something like 1 minutes the "dead" piglet jumped up and ran to the pond where in the dippiest part of it it dropped again and was finally dead....

For some unexplained reason sometimes piglets after direct head shot and i noticed it with piglets only, not a grown up pigs, they get up and run, some time up to 50-70 yards. Interesting if someone else had this experience.

Now i had to fish it from the pond. Not enough it was the dippiest part, it also was the most overgrown with tree/bush branches above the water and weed in the water. I even could not see it from the "shore".
It took me a little while to locate it and dig it out of all the vegetation. My doughtier asked me when i sent her this picture:" Are you sure it is ripe, it is so green"

In a couple of days i decided to repeat my success.
Went to the same spot.
And bingo, at 7:30 PM the group came in. It was the same group, but this time it was only 1 saw and 5 piglets.
