I guess a picture is worth a thousand words. The shot was made from 15yds.

The trail went about 150yds and stopped. A quick look around and we find our pig, in a wallow, alive. We gave him more time, not enough.
Moving in for a second shot, he bolts. Makes it another 200yds and piles up at the edge of the lake. When we got to him he was done, but we put one in the picnic basket for good measure. I don't have a weight for him and I suck at guessing. So feel free to throw some numbers.

My Sunday sow went 90 lbs dressed.
I'd give yours at least 50 lbs more.
Nice hog!

Offduty, if you're about 5' 2", I'd say it's about 125. If you're more like 5' 9", I'd guess 160. Nice hog!

Congrats on the nice hog. Did you by any chance find any hogs up behind where you camped?

Welcome to the forums Tino B. We've got a few members from Concord. Should probably do a meet and greet sometime. I've got a partner I hunt Sonoma with and he always seems to get a pig when he hunts with me. I told him I'm going to start charging a guide fee!

Very nice archery public boar. You should be proud. 160-175 on the hoof, not that it really matters! That hog should eat about as good as anything. Congrats.

Thanks guys. I can't wait to get the meat back from the butcher.
What is your favorite part of the pig? Any tips/tricks on cooking the lean meat?

That would be great. Always nice to meet other local hunters. You a member of any local archery clubs? We shoot at Briones and The Diablo Bowmens Club a lot.

My FAVORITE way to eat them is simply putting a frozen roast in the crock pot for 8-10 hours. The roast's with bone in are really flavorful and the meat just falls off the bone. You don't even need to add any water or seasonings while cooking. Maybe just a little salt and pepper if you want. You can eat the meat plain, or make excellent "Boaritos".
