I drew hunt 278A in Southeastern Oregon this year for rifle bull elk. I can hunt units 66,67,68,69,70,71,73. Can anyone tell me what areas are good? As a non-resident I probably won’t be lucky enough to draw a tag like this again. I would appreciate any info on this area.

I would say that your best bets are the North West corner of the Malheur Unit and the North East corner of Wagontire. There is a lot of desert in those units. I would look for tall ridges ringed with rim rock and junipers. The North West corner of the Malheur, specifically along the Silves River (Unit boundary if I remember right) is mostly timbered, and will hold small heards most of the year. From my experiences if these areas, the elk don't stick to one area too long. It is pretty hit and miss most of the time.

Too bad that tag doesn't include unit 72.
