Southern California's Negrohead Mountain renamed for black pioneer

Not too far from my little town there is a place called "------Slough". It was named that because it was originally settled by black folk. A few years back the county board of supervisors decided to change the name to "Jones Slough", since it was the Jones family who lived there first. They thought it would be much more PC than the original name.

To everyones surprise, Mr. Jones' elderly great-grandson showed up at the meeting and threatened to sue them if they changed the name.

They didn't change the name; but of course it is no longer printed on any maps or signs(old maps still show it). The grandson said the name was history, and it was his family who made the history, and it would be wrong to change the name. The grandson died shortly after that, and his family had already mostly left the area. Few people even remember the name of the slough. One of the areas big growers whos family has been here since the mid-1800's just built a very big home right on the edge of the slough.
