Hello Folks,

I've been trying to get out and search for some pigs for the past few months. I had a chance 3 weeks ago when i was off from work but the Flu got to me really bad. I was ill for almost 3 weeks. Worse Flu/Cold i had ever had! Thank god i'm way better now. I have decided to make a 1 day trip tomorrow morning. I have thought about Coalinga or Springville, however ill be working late till about 1130 tonight. So I am leaning more torwards Springville up by Poterville. Has any one seen or hunted pigs up there, other than the private guide service up there? Definitely not asking for the honey holes, only some pin points or good intel. Should i harvest something during my trip on the information provided i will be more than happy to share some piggy.

Thanks for the help folks.

Regards, Chay

I am sure there's pigs In Springville; but I doubt you will find any one public land. Coalinga ain't that great, but there's a few pig that sometimes stray into public property. If you are up for a steep hike, you might try Curry Mountain.

Either place is good if you want to pay to play.

Was up around 5k feet elevation. Very foggy and drizzling really got my hopes up. After a long hike in and out. Only jumped one doe and came across a flock of 6 turkey's. Very smart they crossed over to private land. Had to cut my trip short as I started feeling short on breaths and light headed. Overall love spending time out whether I get something or not.

Why pick the Springville area? Not a well known area to hold pigs. Infact wild pigs never exist in the area until a couple years ago when someone advertised guide pig hunt in the area.

I once heard of two hunters from LA went hunting with a guide in the Springville area. The guide took them inside a gate and radioed the landowner to meet them. When the landowner showed up, two pigs were following the landowner. The guide and landowner panic to make the two hunters shoot the pig. One of the more rookie hunter shot one pig at 10 yards. The second pig circled around looking for the landowner while the landowner was trying to hide behind the hunters and the guide. The more experienced hunter petted the forehead of the second hog with the muzzle of the rifle. The guide apologized to the hunters that it should not have happened the way it was. The guide promised to take the hunters to a better spot the next day where the more experience hunter will get the opportunity to shoot a trophy boar. Next morning the guide was no show. The guide called and said he had caught the flu and will no longer be able to hunt with the hunters.

wow what a fake.. that really sucks @$$... I know my best bet would be FHL.. reason is I don't have a 4wd or high clearance vehicle.

You don't necessarily need a 4WD or high clearance vehicle to hunt FHL. If all I had was a Honda Accord, I'd still be driving around all the better pig hunting TAs in dry weather. Wet weather may be a difference story but you can still be on hard ground and be within walking distance from good areas. One time I saw a father and daughter in a Pontiac Sunfire and they had a big hog hanging on a tree in the middle of a training area.
