hi all, i live in southern california, lots of desert woth Squirels, rabbits and qual. i was wondering if there are any tricks to find em or lure them out, with all the brush out here its a lil hard to find em, anybody have experience or input? thx.
Look in the granite foothills and creek/river banks, cliffs. Also look for their
holes on hillsides and such. To bring them out, I've had good luck with just
about any varmint call. Even just a plain old lip whistle will gain their curiosity.
They'll tend to jump up out of the their holes and up onto rocks and bushes
to see what's going on and that's when you begin kulling the herd.
Just be sure NOT to shoot the bushy-tailed tree squirrels in SoCal.
Read those state regs for clarity on huntable game and season dates...
I may be not reading this right but I wouldn't eat the ground squirrels out here in Cali, they aint the same as the tree rats back east, the grays & fox squirrels are good eating but the ground squirrels out here aint good for more than target practice, full of bugs & disease. The rabbit is a diffrent story, they are good.
