I've got access to some private land down in Arroyo Seco that from time to time holds hogs (the rancher hasn't seen them lately). However, one thing that's been mentioned to me by the owner and ranch manager is that they put out some type of blue squirrel bait and that when the pigs are there, they love the squirrel bait. They both basically advised against eating any of the pigs from there because of this.

I have no idea what type of squirrel bait (poison) this is, other than it's blue, but does anyone have experience with this? Would you kill and eat a pig you knew possibly had eaten poison?

Another rancher I talked to who knew about the poison basically said he wouldn't worry about it. I think the poison makes them bleed internally or something. He didn't think the poison would transfer on to whoever ate the pig.

I'm guessing this is the stuff. I'm going to read up on it.

Well, a little research could have saved me a post. The anticoagulants remains in the dead animal so it's advised not to allow scavengers to eat the carcass. I'm guessing that would go for me eating a pig. However, it probably depends on how much they ate.

I could just stock up on vitamin K.

I ask a good friend I help with pest control and you will probably be ok , but being a condor zone im surprised they can use that because it will kill large birds.

I took a DFG pig hunting class where they discussed the poison I think you're talking about. According to the wildlife biologist, the poison accumulates in the pigs' fatty tissues and turns them an easily visible blue color. The biologist's (and I'm guessing the DFG's) position is that meat from those hogs is toxic and should not be eaten. I'm not sure how that jives with the prohibition on wasting game, but I certainly wouldn't want to eat pork laced with rat poison.

Ya if something doesn't look right then don't eat it , depending on the poison used some are only strong enough to be effective on small animals and will not effect large animals like boar. I would tell the guy who is using it to stop and pull out the 22s and have some fun target practice. ;-)
