St. Mary Parish Trio Caught Night Hunting From

On November 23, agents from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division cited three St. Mary Parish residents for allegedly hunting deer at night. Troy Dupuy, 34, of Berwick, Scott Rink, 21, of Berwick and Rebecca Holcombe, 21 of Patterson, were all cited for hunting deer during illegal hours, hunting deer by illegal methods, and hunting deer from a moving boat.

The charges resulted from a nighttime patrol in which the enforcement agents were targeting night hunting complaints in the Bayou Hog area of St. Mary Parish. The agents observed the three suspects using a hand held spot light and a .22-magnum caliber rifle to kill a spike buck deer from a boat at around midnight. The agents allege that upon stopping the subject's vessel, they witnessed the hunters throw the deer overboard. When questioned, the subjects provided written statements as to their illegal activities.

If convicted of hunting deer during illegal hours, the three face penalties of fines up to $950, jail for not more than 120 days, or both. Hunting deer by illegal methods carries a penalty of a fine of up to $500, jail for not more than 90 days, or both. Hunting deer from a moving boat carries a penalty of a fine no more than $350, jail for not more than 60 days, or both. They also face the possibility of forfeiture of the rifle and the boat and outboard engine.

In addition to the criminal penalties the three face a civil penalty of $524.54 for the restitution value of the deer.

Agents participating in this case were Sergeant Ross Mire, Sergeant Glenn Gremillion, Senior Agent Daniel Clause, and Senior Agent Billy Shoemaker.
