I'm in southwest kansas here and I'm going to start shed hunting. I've deer hunted for years but never really thought about going shed hunting until this year. Anyone close to me gone out yet or when do you think it is a good time to start. My brother goes out every year and he told me first of Febuary. But I thought I would see when everyone else is going to start.

I don't get real serious about it until mid feb. here in Ne. I never stop looking though. It's an all year hobby. I found a dandy non typ. in Oct. It was old but good enough to restore. Everytime you are in the woods be looking. I'm going out this p.m. to check my game cam and will probably look around for an hour or so. Just be sure not to put too much pressure on the bucks. You don't want to spook them from the area. I stay away from bedding areas at this time of the year. Good luck.

I usually start my looking the last week of jan. for South Central Pa.
I don't find alot of sheds at first then after a couple weeks the sheds
start showing up more regular.
As already stated,I try not to put pressure on the local deer herd and
having them move out of the area.
Today I planned on taking a walk to check things out.The fever it me
a couple weeks ago and I can't handle it any more.

Starting early I usually find sheds that I missed the previous spring
before the competition gets out.

I usually start sometime in February, but I have found all my sheds in March.

Well,I made it out this afternoon for my walk,my first serious attempt
of the year.Don't think it helped my shed fever though, only made it worse.
I did manage to start the season out on a good note.I found two sheds from
last year and a fresh drop from this year. All were average size with no chews.
Last years were a Y or a 2pt. and the other a 4pt. the fresh shed was a 3pt.
The 3pt. was the earliest fresh shed of the year I ever found.(jan 15th)
Good luck to all, prime time shed hunting is coming!!
