I'm going to start a small thread about my bowhunting travels during the next few weeks.
I hunted this past Wed, Thurs, and was rained out on Fri. I'm hunting at the moment on my lease in NE Missouri, Ralls County. It consists of 250+ acres of large CRP fields and strip woods. I have noticed during the years that the deer tend to bed in the fields and come and go at will. There is no sure way to pattern the deer so you have to wait until they decide to move.
I have however noticed scrapes popping up all over during the past week. The bucks are moving more and more each day.
I was headed to my stand on Wed. afternoon and managed to bump up 3 does that were bedded along the edge of the field. Around 4:50, 3 does cruised by the stand. Ten minutes later 2 more does. Then a large 10 point showed up but would never come in any closer than 40+ yards. Shortly after that, 3 more does and that was it for the evening.
Thursday morning was a bust...no deer but listened to the turkeys chatter for about 3 hours down in the creek bottom.
Thursday evening a large body buck came out of the field and began working along the edge toward my stand. I would say he was an easy 200 lbs. or so on the hoof but only sported a small 6 point rack. I let him go, not wanting to burn my early buck tag on him. That was it for the evening and when I woke on Friday morning, it was a total wash out with heavy rain and winds.
Here are a few pics that I took from one of my stands. The first pic actually has the 6 point in it. He is very hard to see since he had already passed and I didn't want to spook him by taking a close up picture. He is about dead center in the photo below the orange colored leaves and walking away. I didn't have the camera with me during the 10 point bucks visit. Even if I did, I would not risk taking a picture.
I'll be heading out again late this coming week when my vacation finally starts. I'll keep everyone updated.
Here are some pics of the property.
