Hunting Bull Elk In AZ unit 9 has been a dream for years but not wanting to wait tell im 67 years old this year i burned my 5 points on a Cow tag in hopes to draw the tag every 4 years to get to know the unit so one day my sons will draw a archery bull tag and we will know where to hunt. One of my sons and grandson came out with me where able to hunt the weekend with 300 tags out hunters where around every corner we able to narrow an area down where no other hunters where that we new of anyway because the forest was vary thick with ponderosa pine and Gambel oak trees we spent two mornings in this area and saw one huge bull pushing 380 with two cows and no shot.My son and grandson went home on sunday and i went back out in the afternoon hiked in about 2 miles and sat under a tree tell 4pm in hopes the Elk will be out of there beds i started walking vary slow peaking threw the trees i got to a clearing and theres a cow feeding about a 100yrds out i took the shot and six cows and a big bull went running out that i never even saw. Now with only two hours left of day light i had to get moving after a late night i got all the meat out and hide to the two miles to the truck my GPS saved my ass in the pitch dark

Nice work!!!! Congrats on getting it done on your own! That's awesome that you are sacrificing your chances on a tag to learn an area for your sons and grandsons! My hat is off to you sir!!!!

Awesome. My 12 yr old drew a cow tag for Arizona unit 22. We go in a couple weeks. I was already kinda antsy, but reading your story has me bouncing off the walls.
