Here's a shot of the hog Steve and I got yesterday a.m. Shot was about 100 yards, quartering. The exit was just behind the off leg. 300 win mag 168 gr. TTSX handload. He was a game little bugger: ran perhaps 200 yards before expiring after bleeding a couple of gallons of blood on the way. Broke one rib going in, and his insides were pudding. I do like the Barnes. He gutted out at 154 lbs. and cleaned up nicely; we didn't even have to rinse him off. Weird color. Just a couple of spots on him, the rest a kind of straw color. Never killed one in a color like that. He had the biggest set of nuts I've ever seen, too. He was running with another dozen or so hogs but he was definitely the biggest. I'm sure he was trying to get a little action with the big momma in the group. There was one other boar, about 100 lbs. all up. Steve didn't see anything he wanted to shoot; didn't even get out of the truck.
When I shot him Steve says: "I think you missed! I saw dirt fly up behind him." Seeing as how I was rock steady and that rifle is a stone killer I kind of said: "Whaaaat? No way, man!" Never heard the impact. Never reacted like he was hit. When we got over there though; blood was everywhere. (That's usually a good sign) The best part was we were able to drag him down about fifty feet to a dirt road and drive right to him. As you can see; it was a beautiful morning with the ocean in the background.
I think there's a ham or two in the future......
